Country star and mother-to-be Carrie Underwood dazzled on the red carpet at the Country Music Association Awards in Nashville on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old, who is co-hosting this year's event alongside Brad Paisley, covered her growing baby bump in a beautiful vintage-style champagne vintage formal dresses with glittering embellishments.

Also bringing the glamour at the star-studded event was American Idol star Kellie Pickler, 28, who looked stylish in a midnight blue cheap formal dresses featuring sheer panels and dazzling beading, while Lucy Hale made a bold statement in a flowing red long formal dresses australia and metallic belt.

With nine nods, Miranda Lambert will provide the toughest competition at Wednesday's ceremony with more nominations than any other artist, including entertainer, album, song and single of the year.

The 30-year-old singer also with her husband, Blake Shelton, 38, two of his three nominations, artists and the single award of the year.

Lambert is a lonely female artist in one of the most famous artist category and, with her husband, is facing competition in the form of last year's winner, George strait with Keith urban, Luke Bryan Blake Shelton and husband.

She will also be hoping to scoop the female vocalist gong again, which she has managed to snag for past four consecutive years.

In that category she will go head-to-head with Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Kacey Musgraves and Taylor Swift.

It's Swift's only nomination this year too and a seismic shift from her impressive eight nods last year.

Swift's voice, far away from the root of her country music, main categories of the 24-year-old star in the cold and is unlikely to win the singer, according to industry forecasts.

Leading the male contingent, Bentley's nominations include album of the year for Riser, song of the year for I Hold On and single of the year for Drunk.

Luke Bryan, who has three nominations, will also perform. His album Crash My Party was released more than a year ago, but is currently in the Top 40 on Billboard's 200 albums chart, and has sold more than 2.1 million copies.

It will compete for album of the year, along with Eric Church's The Outsiders, Urban's Fuse and efforts from Lambert and Bentley.

Other performances tonight will come from Ariana Grande, who will join Little Big Town, while Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott, Jennifer Nettles and Hunter Hayes will perform with the Doobie Brothers.

Kenny Chesney, Church, Kacey Musgraves and Tim McGraw will also perform. Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley, who are returning for their seventh year as hosts, will also take the stage.

Jimmy Kimmel will also have hosting duties: Jimmy Kimmel Live! will broadcast via hologram to a live audience at the CMA Theater in the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. A performance by Florida Georgia Line will also be sent by hologram to Hollywood.

Presenters at the 2014 CMAs include Garth Brooks, Tim Tebow, Steven Tyler, Connie Britton, Darius Rucker, Trisha Yearwood and Lucy Hale.
